All Mariela Ceramica products are mostly made out of clay which is a durable and hard material made to last for years when handled properly and with care. They may always break with regular wear and tear. However we want to encourage our clients to handle the product with the following care so they might last forever:

  • Although, the products are dishwasher safe, we strongly recommend washing by hand. The sculptural works should only be handwashed or wiped with a damp cloth.

  • Using a mild detergent is advised, both in the dishwasher or when washed by hand. The strong washing up liquids may, with time, damage the glaze and make the surface matte, crackled and/or make it easier for cutlery to leave marks on the surfaces.

  • If wax has dropped or ran down on a candleholder, the best way of getting rid of it is by simply picking it off. If it has got stuck, a lighter may be used to “melt” it off. The black marks after the flame may be wiped with a damp cloth afterwards. Pouring hot water is another way of getting rid of wax– but please be careful not to pour too hot water (do not boil it) all at once! Ceramic glazes may crack when heated up too quickly. The shock might change the coloring.

  • As mentioned above, extreme changes in temperature may damage ceramics. Never pour boiling water into any ceramic vessel or put a ceramic product directly from the freezer into a microwave.

  • All that is glazed always has the glaze removed from the surface that touches the shelve in the kiln, otherwise, it would stick when the glaze melts at high temperatures. This means that some of the products may have a rough surface on the bottom, which may scratch for example a tabletop. To protect the surfaces, I recommend sticking protecting furniture pads in felt, rubber or cork onto the ceramic object, to avoid scratches.
